No need for Mexican truck program: The numbers prove it

Well, we knew that. But the Mexican government has said that trade was hurt by closing the border to Mexican trucks.

That was Mexico's rationale for imposing retaliatory tariffs on $2.4 billion worth of American goods after President Obama pulled the plug on the Bush-era pilot program in 2009.

Unfortunately, the Mexican government is incorrect about the impact of the border closing on trade. Just-released numbers from the DOT show that truck traffic from Mexico into the U.S. increased last year. Truck crossings into US from Mexico were up over 9.5 percent, to 4,742,925  from 4,291,465 in 2009.

If you haven't sent in your comment yet to oppose the DOT's insane plan to open the border to Mexican trucks, go to http://www.stopmexicantrucks.com/  and follow the instructions.
